It’s reliability and versatility has seen it used in almost every region of the UK apart from the South East and is particularly well known for its work in Scotland, the North West and East Anglia as well as on the route between Norwich and Liverpool via Leicester and Sheffield. Now displaced on primary routes by newer trains or by Class 158s, these stellar units remain common on secondary services or commuter trains. Included in this set is 156 919 which is in one of the very latest liveries ‘EMR Regional’ which is East Midlands Railway’s Regional division so this particular multiple unit can be seen almost anywhere between Liverpool and Norwich to the west and east respectively with Nottingham acting as the hub for the EMR operation.
